In the end, this case did neither. The sides of the phone (on the front) are a lighter pink that discolored extremely easily both from my purse (just the normal lining), from my jeans pocket, and from my make-up (I just wear BareMinerals...and I don't pancake it on).
It also broke along the bottom edge of it (just above where the power plug would go.
I wouldn't buy this again...

on 2010-04-01I love this case. As with all things that I could see on a computer screen but not in real life, I was hesitant to purchase it online especially because since the case looked shiny, I was afraid that it might constantly be slipping out of my grip as I have sweaty palms. But my worry was for nothing. The colour is gorgeous, just as bright as shown here. Plus the mixture of soft on the inside and hard shell on the outside is a huge plus since I don't have to worry about my iPod Touch getting scratched from the case.
I have an iPod Touch 3G by the way, and even though the packaging for the case said 2G, it still fits great. I can still see a VERY thin silver lining (from the iPod) when the case is on though. I don't know if it's supposed to fit this way or what, but it is not slack in anyway and fits snugly. The power button on this case is SO much easier to depress than the original power button (that used to hurt my fingers). The volume buttons are about the same as before though. The buttons themselves look like hard plastic from the picture, but it's the same softish material used on the inside of the case.
If you're the type of person who wants to clean your iPod out of the case on a regular basis, you may find some difficulty to take off the case because it fits so snugly.... but BECAUSE it fits so snugly, you're guaranteed not to have any dirt get behind the iPod itself anyway. lol.
I've had the case for at least 2 months now and it only has really teeny tiny scratches on the back, so it's a pretty good scratch resistor. Also, the case adds some weight and size to the iPod, but it can still fit comfortable in Case Logic camera case (it has 2 compartments), WITH my camera!

on 2010-02-25I was a little hesitant to order without seeing the item in person, but the pictures show the case perfectly! It was exactly what I expected. The inside is soft plastic and the outside is a hard shell. It was very easy to bend onto my ipod. I feel confident that if I dropped my Ipod touch that it would be protected. The case is nice and snug, and of course very cute! All of the plugs are exposed, I have no issue plugging in to the computer or using headphones. Also, it came with a screen protector which I wasn't expecting, so that was a nice surprise! I would recommend this case to anyone!

on 2010-01-24This case is great! I've had it for about two weeks now, and I must say it has done it's job.
The case is not bulky whatsoever. The back is glossy, but still maintains grip. The rubber that the other viewer said was a little flimsy, it kind of is, but you can tell it's sturdy, almost like a VERY tight rubberband.
Minor things are: The back becomes a little scratched because of use, but it isn't deep or anything, it's just a little wear.
Good: I have actually DROPPED my Ipod once with the cover on, and it literally bounced on the corner. NO damage to my Ipod despite the impact, this cover does its job! The rubberized corners really come in handy.
It's pretty hard to take off, but you probaly don't want to, unless you want to clean for dust. The buttons over the volume and lock button are actually nice, have not had any problems with them.

on 2009-12-26I saw the CandyShell in the Apple store, and the employee recommended it to me. He claimed that all his customers have been satisfied, but I know he might have been yanking my chain to make a sale. I came home and read some good reviews, so I decided to give it a try. (Plus, I got this case for only $22 whereas it's about $35 in-store.)
The back of the case is hard plastic, so it's a bit shiny. I actually found that it's not slippery, so I'm quite pleased with it. I love the color as well. The case covers the volume and off buttoms on the side and top of the iPod; the case does have raised areas of different color so it is obvious where the buttons are. I actually really like the feel of the buttons, perhaps even moreso than without the case.
The case comes with a screen protector. It was easy to apply after I used the included microfiber cloth to clean the screen for a good 5 minutes. It looks great - no bubbles, more shiny, less fingerprinty.
The front of the case is simply a rim that goes around the iPod, as shown in the picture. This rim is actually made of rubber or silicone... whatever it is, it's flexible. The bottom rim is where I have a problem - there is a large hole for the charger and headphones, so the rim is only a couple millimieters thick. It's VERY flexible because of its thinness; if you tried to hold the iPod by this strip, it might break, or at least stretch and distort. I don't think this is too big of a problem; just avoid touching or holding onto this thin strip of rubber.
I'm quite satisfied with the case because it feels strong and is only one piece; I had problems with a previous case (2 pieces that came apart way too easily). I think this case is a pretty good value and should last a while.
**UPDATE 6/21/2010** Well, it happened - the thin silicone piece along the bottom has broken. I'm going to try to superglue it back together. The rest of the case is still in great condition; I really like how tough it is. I HAVE dropped it on my face a few times while lying in bed and using the device... oops. Regardless, I still prefer this sleek case to the all-silicone ones that get linty and can be difficult to pull out of a pocket.
